Student learning is at the heart of all that we do at the Academy of Flint. It is our belief that student learning is improved with the use of technology. This plan begins with a vision for students learning and a commitment for creating and continuing to build networked learning environments. It continues with a detailed explanation of technology standards for all students, a description of network and telecommunications services, a description of professional development strategies, timelines for accomplishment of learning goals, long-term funding strategies, and measure for assessments and evaluation.
Academy of Flint’s curriculum addresses the core content areas (Math, Social Studies, Science and Language Arts/Reading), Foreign Language, Entrepreneurial and extra curricula activities that enhance a commitment to student learning. Staff representing all grades have reviewed and aligned core curriculum outcomes in English/Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies with instructional materials. This alignment supports outcomes assessed by MEAP reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies and by Metropolitan Achievement Tests in reading, mathematics, and science. The alignment will be used to direct instructional strategies and the assessment used instruction. Entrepreneurial activities are integrated throughout the curriculum.
Our curriculum stresses reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies as skills possessed by literate individuals and productive workers, including entrepreneurs. Students are equipped with interpersonal, problem solving, and technical skills that enabled them to be self-directed lifelong learners, involved citizens, responsible family members and knowledgeable consumers. Our career education programs expose students to adult roles.
